Putting Challenge II (2024)
a FREEWARE fangame by ‘Gumpy Function’ for the Game Boy

Golfing simulators might be not the crown of game development, but in fact we don’t have a golf simulator here, but an awesome point and click adventure with plenty of sidekicks. Fans of ‘The Simpsons’ franchise will already smile.
Another hole in one!
Gumpy Function is already known for a Simpsons based Game Boy Color game named ‘My Dinner with André’ and here is another homage. The entire gameplay is based on Lee Carvallo’s life, a mysterious and fictive golfer. Apart from the fact that he tried guiding Bart in a NES game to hit the golf ball in the right direction, however Bart being the annoying little freak he is, deliberately went against Carvallo’s suggestions and ended up getting bored. Carvallo on the other end, no matter what pose or shots he took, ended up with aces. We all know Bart and Millhouse had more interest in the violent fighting game ‘Bonestorm’ that time.
Back to Putting Challenge II: Guide Lee Carvallo in his daily life. Sleep where he sleeps, eat what he eats, golf where he golfs!
The gameplay offers a vibrant collection of modes, from simulating life out of the bedroom, to actually playing in the field. What we would have actually enjoyed, would have been the inclusion of a scoring pencil to track your records.
Graphics are good, but could need very minor tweaking to be perfect. The music was written by Beatscribe, who seems very active these days.
Conclusion
Whether you’re a Simpsons fan or not, you’re simply bound to enjoy this fun little unofficial fan release. Still, after all these years, there can’t be enough Simpsons based games at all. D’oh!
