Skull Nightmare is a tiny mini-game for the Game Boy Color.

Ahoy, Come Aboard! ARRRR!

The credit for this release goes to three different people and their collective efforts to make this a reality. Xeif, the original mastermind behind this release, worked on graphics and code, whereas the music, is credited to Beatscribe, who already served several retro games with music, and therefore did not disappoint. The eye-catching art cover is a creation of Alba Aramayo.

As a mini-game, we certainly cannot expect to have a lot of gameplay. The task is simple, but challenging: Dodge the heavy cannonballs, which can blast you off the screen in no time. If you now look forward to moving left and right and jump up or down, we have to lower your expectations. Moving left and right is not possible, which gives the whole game a really difficult twist. The collision is truly unforgiving. Every second you survive will give you one whopping point. Sometimes a temporary visible doubloon might appear, which gives you an extra ten points.

A user in the comments of the release page claimed to have reach 93 points, while you can cut the 3 away and know on how many points we ended up.

Conclusion

Indeed, a nice and little mini-game, worth a couple of minutes of play for teasing yourself and trying to aim for a proper high score, while getting in rage for the very strict collision behaviour.
