Baunsudaun is a Game Boy Classic game inspired by an old Java game, according to its author Maithonis. While the game is not necessarily a masterpiece of gaming history, it offers the player an easy-going gaming experience with the goal of surviving as long as possible, while helping ‘Blob’ to reach lower platforms.

SIMPLICITY WITH A TWIST

Help the little round guy to avoid spikes at any cost, but also avoid falling into a fire — this would roast you up and lead to a ‘Game Over’. The challenge is spiced up with seven different types of platforms, which can be strategically used.

Regular platforms will keep you on the floor while cloud platforms disappear — there are also so-called left and right platforms, you may guess now, yes — they will guide you in the according direction only. We keep the other platforms onto your leisure to explore. As you progress, the game becomes, obviously, increasingly difficult with faster scrolling.

Baunsudaun’s ‘just one more try’ appeal makes it easy to keep coming back for another round, while enjoying a short break. The randomly generated platforms and steadily increasing difficulty means no run will be like the previous one.

The chip tune music with its catchy melody adds a little something to this casual game. While the speed ramps up, so does the audio.

Conclusion

While this game does not really have an extensive depth or great visuals, it delivers a short-while lasting, but addictive experience true to its retro roots.
