Written for BrewOtaku #003 by Usman A. Khan

The thing about shoot ’em up games is that they demand quick reflexes and precise coordination from players. If you’re proud of your reflexes and in the mood for a riveting challenge, Zisquier’s latest game, ‘Goldorak’ for Amstrad Plus and GX4000, is the choice of the hour.
SAUCHER RHAPSODY!
This game pays homage to the classic anime ‘Grendizer,’ a TV series that aired from 1975 to 1977, produced by ‘Dynamic Productions’ and animated by legendary ‘Toei Animation’. BrewOtaku also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the beloved Amstrad CPC 464. So what’s a better way to honour this classic system than by reviewing Goldorak? The game is packed with vibrant pixels, awesome electronic tunes, and an impressive amount of data compressed into a 64Kb cartridge only. The developers made tough choices to fit everything in, aiming to create the ultimate shoot ’em up game for the Amstrad console without losing the essence of the anime. As Goldorak, you traverse hostile territories — from lush green plains to erupting volcanoes — to repel the enemy invasion. Action is a guaranteed promise in this free game ‘by Goldorak fans for Goldorak fans’.
As for the story, the baddie, ‘King Vega’, seeks to expand his empire and unleashes armies of flying saucers and giant robots on neighbouring planets. This turns the peaceful world of ‘Fleed’ into a wasteland. Crown Prince Duke Fleed steals Grendizer, a powerful robot that can fly with Spacer, a flying saucer, to face the fearsome Vega motherships. Only the most skilled will overcome the waves of enemies. Looks like our planet really, really needs us. Bring it on, Vega! After a resolved route, you spend credits for upgrades, supporting your mission further.

Conclusion
The music by Johan ‘Pulsophonic’ perfectly adds to the high-octane action. The background graphics are stunning, making the game a visual treat. Goldorak is a must-play for loyal fans of Grendizer.
