Cyberpunk games have always captivated gamers with their neon-infused aesthetics and dystopian themes. This NES gem, crafted by Jon Piornack and programmed by Kevin Hanley, plunges players into a vibrant cyberpunk world. With striking pixel art and energetic chiptunes, Courier draws significant inspiration from ‘Shadowrun’.

HACK IT LIKE BECKHAM (OR SO)

In a dystopian cityscape controlled by the nefarious Ankh Industries, players assume the role of Conrad, a rogue Courier battling a devastating virus threatening cyberspace. This virus, engineered to cripple Couriers and corrupt data, has thrown the city into chaos, and Conrad’s mission is to uncover the truth behind this digital conspiracy. As he navigates through shadowy streets and high-tech hubs, players will engage in a variety of activities — including pickpocketing and hacking. Courier isn’t just about combat; it’s a fun mix of exploration, puzzle- solving, and character progression. There’s some sneaking around, for sure, but then there are also intense gunfights that will test your reflexes.

Development of Courier kicked off on January 11, 2022. Initially, the developers aimed to release the game in 2023 through a major indie publisher. However, persistent technical issues with the publisher’s hardware led to delays. In response, they reverted to their original plan, launching a Kickstarter campaign on January 1, 2024. The campaign proved successful, and physical copies began shipping to backers on May 1, 2024.
