Listen up, fans of old school TV shows, Knightmare is back, and it’s better than ever! Sausageware Games has resurrected the classic 1980s TV show for the ZX Spectrum 128k, delivering a nostalgic yet challenging experience. This updated version brings all the medieval thrills, head-scratching puzzles, and eerie atmosphere that made the original series unforgettable.
“The Corridor of Blades”
In Knightmare, you’ll step into the shoes of a brave adventurer tasked with navigating the creepy and dangerous dungeons of Knightmare Castle. Just like the TV show, you’ll need to rely on your wits to guide your character through a series of challenges while blindfolded by the iconic “Helmet of Justice.” The medieval setting is as foreboding as ever, with unsettling characters and tricky puzzles awaiting you at every turn. The story begins with the dungeon doors reopening after years of silence, calling for a hero bold enough to confront the terrors within. Whether you’re playing the 48k or the 128k version, the gameplay experience remains intact. However, if you have the 128k version, you’ll be treated to a full suite of in-game music by ‘Joe Olney’, including a rendition of the original theme tune by ‘Ed Welch’.

This musical addition adds an extra layer of immersion, making your journey through the dungeons even more intense. As you progress, keeping an eye on your inventory is crucial—spells and items you collect along the way might just hold the key to overcoming the seemingly insurmountable obstacles ahead. And don’t forget to monitor your health, which depletes over time. Finding food will be essential for survival as you delve deeper into the labyrinth.
Conclusion
As tough as the TV show it’s based on, you’ll likely need several attempts to conquer its challenges. After all, even the original show saw only a few victors. Are you ready to be one of them?
