‘Niko and the Magic Orb’ transports you to a fantasy world where a heroic cat, Niko, wields a powerful orb passed down from his grandfather. To save his village from the sinister sorcerer’s curse, Niko must reclaim the stolen half of the magical orb and vanquish his enemies.
“The Fresh Orb of Gato-Air”
Set in a visually stunning world reminiscent of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and ‘Super Mario Bros.’, Niko’s journey through forests, caves, and temples offers plenty of platforming goodness. The game’s standout feature is Niko’s bubble attack, which he uses to defeat everything from oversized rats to treacherous snakes. These bubbles may seem cute, but as the game progresses, the challenge ramps up. You’ll quickly realize that you need to put in a bit of trial and error to master enemy patterns, navigate moving platforms, and avoid tricky obstacles. The game’s lore is equally intriguing. The legend of the two orbs, one of which was stolen by an evil sorcerer cat, pushes Niko through a series of challenges. As he hunts for the statues that guard the keys to the dark labyrinth, you’ll find the mixture of exploration, enemy encounters, and platforming perfectly balanced.
Destroying the glass eyes of the statues and outwitting their magical projections is both challenging and satisfying. Niko and the Magic Orb is made with the ZX Game Maker engine, giving it a modern twist on classic platforming.

Niko’s quest may sound simple at first, but once you’re knee-deep in magical enemies and dangerous environments, you’ll see how it truly comes to life while keeping you on your toes. The catchy music and nice graphics is a great plus.
Conclusion
With its gorgeous world, fun mechanics, and feline vibes, Niko and the Magic Orb is a title that should make it to every ZX Spectrum fan’s radar. It’s a delightful blend of charm, challenge, and clever platforming. And don’t forget, with great magic comes great pawsibility. Meow!
