Once again, you assume the role of Sir Aleron, a brave knight in the vicinity of the cursed Luminaris Castle. The game delivers its adventure in two loads, with each part offering its own set of challenges. You start off with 25 health points, and every heart you find on your journey will help you hang on to dear life just a little longer. Health is precious here, so you’ll want to tread carefully, while battling invincible enemies like pesky rats. These little terrors can’t be hurt, but that just means it’s time to work on your dodging skills. Make sure to collect keys scattered throughout the castle that are just as essential as your health. Bosses and mini-bosses await, but fear not because each of these nasties has a weakness that can be exploited with a little patience and observation. Keep your wits about you, because beyond the obvious enemies, there are secret areas full of rings waiting to be discovered.
And let’s not forget the epic musical score and those vibrant ZX Spectrum graphics that bring the cursed castle to life. Developed with the ZX Game Maker Engine, Fransouls clearly poured a lot of love into this beautiful adventure. The variety of challenges will keep you hooked from start to finish. The haunting blueish backgrounds evoke a sense of dread, whereas the designs of various structures you encounter are stunning to look at.
