Frantic Freddie (2024)
a FREE game by ‘László Rajcsányi’ for Game Boy Color

‘Frantic Freddie’ is back, and this time he’s gone handheld. This homebrew Game Boy Color game revives the classic Commodore 64 original by Gregor Larson and Kris Hatlelid.
“DON’T STOP CLIMBIN’ POLES”
In Frantic Freddie, you play as Freddie, a telephone line engineer with a love for pots of gold. Your mission is to climb up and down telegraph poles, collecting all the gold on each level while dodging the Greeblies. These little enemies may look harmless, but they’re out to ruin Freddie’s day, appearing in different forms on every level. The game delivers a humorous experience, complete with silly interludes and bonus items like ice cream, stars, and Euro bills scattered across its 16 levels.
After thoroughly testing the game ourselves, we can confidently say it works like a charm. Each level brings its own unique flavour of fun. The Greeblies follow a predictable path, giving you just enough strategy to plan your moves. But, hey, don’t get too comfortable as things get tricky as you progress. One of the unique twists in Frantic Freddie is that you can’t simply walk past ladders leading up; you’re forced to navigate carefully, which makes dodging enemies a bit more nerveracking. And speaking of nerves, there are moments where you’ll find yourself stuck in the middle of a pole, hoping the enemies won’t drop and spoil your progress. The game’s difficulty ramps up after the early levels, giving you plenty of nail-biting moments.

The background music is a nice touch, with well-known tunes playing throughout.
Conclusion
Frantic Freddie delivers golden laughs and a frantic good time. The mix of humour, tension, and action makes it a sure-fire blast to play. Are you up for the climb?
